This report summarizes the major accidents and failures at nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel-related facilities in FY2022. The data were taken from the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) reports based on the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law or Radioactive Isotope Regulation Law<\/a>, the Nuclear Facilities Information Archive (NUCIA)<\/a>, and press releases and reports from each nuclear operator. From these reports, a list of accidents and malfunctions that are considered important for safety was prepared.\u00a0 Three incidents were required by law to be reported to the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) and are marked with a circle in the \u2018Subject to Law\u2019 column. These were the loss of cooling of high-level liquid waste at the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant, the damage to the thin-walled steam generator tubes from the secondary side at the Takahama Unit 4 reactor, and the automatic reactor shutdown caused by the entanglement of the control rod electrical cable at the Takahama Unit 4 reactor.\u00a0 Many problems related to emergency diesel generators, including the high-voltage core spray system, have also been reported, indicating that emergency preparedness is inadequate.<\/p>\n
