Ruling on JCO Accident
The Court imposed fines on JCO and also on the former head of the Tokaimura plant. The Court also ordered suspended prison sentences in the case of the former head of the JCO plant and five other officials.
All 17 of TEPCOs units shut down
Dr. Shunsuke Kondo, a professor of Tokyo University called this situation a simultaneous breakdown (showing the danger of several NPPs failing at one time).
Japans electricity liberalization policy
A bill to amend the Electric Utilities Industry Law had already been introduced in March and it is scheduled to come into operation around June.
