Reference Material: Radiation Exposure Data for Nuclear Industry Workers (2021)

By Tanimura Nobuko (CNIC)

The Nuclear Regulation Authority has published a report on radiation management at nuclear power plants, which can be viewed in Japanese at www.nra.go.jp/disclosure/law_new/genshiryoku_index.html

Total radiation doses at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant have continued to decrease since FY2014.

The collective exposure doses at nuclear power plants that started operation in FY2021 (Takahama, Ohi, Ikata, Genkai and Sendai) are high but workers are even exposed to radiation at nuclear power plants that are not in operation, for example due to safety measures being taken at these plants. Exposure doses at Fugen, which is under decommissioning, increased year by year from FY2006 to FY2009. This is thought to be due to the fact that the period from FY2018 to FY2023 corresponds to the second stage of the decommissioning plan, the “dismantling and removal period of equipment around the reactor.”
