he Kanazawa District Court has upheld the plaintiffs’ suit for termination of operation of the Shika-2 reactor. The reasons for the verdict were that the design basis earthquake was too small, that the Ohchigata fault zone was not taken into account, that the method used to predict earthquakes was inappropriate, and that an earthquake could cause the plaintiffs to be exposed to radiation above the allowed dose. Shika-2 commenced operations on 15 March 2006. Assuming Hokuriku Electric appeals the verdict, Shika-2 can continue to operate until the final appeals court’s decision.
