10 Million Signature Campaign to say Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants

Come and join in the “Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants” Rally!

Affected by the earthquake on 11th March, the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant of TEPCO is suffering meltdown, the worst possible situation, in its reactors number 1 to3.
This has become an unparalleled disaster, where high level radioactive materials have been released, following hydrogen explosions and the damages to the reactor buildings, into sea water, air and soil, contaminating the environment.

Even two months after the earthquake, the reactors show no sign of coming back to control and the situation continues to be extremely unstable. It is feared that there would be immeasurable effects on the health and lives of not only the local residents and the workers at the power plant but also the future children yet to be born.

We have always been aware that humans cannot live with nuclear. We are deeply regretting that even though we knew this fact, our protesting voices and actions against nuclear energy have been far too weak.

We are determined to take actions for a “peaceful and sustainable society”, reconsidering our lifestyles that exploit nature and waste limitless energy, and focusing on natural energy. For that purpose, we set the following goals:
1. Cancellation of construction plans for new nuclear power plants
2. Planned termination of existing nuclear power plants, including the Hamaoka nuclear power plant.
3. Abolition of “Monju” and nuclear reprocessing plants which use plutonium, the most dangerous radioactive material.
We will achieve these goals in order to save our own lives, and fulfill our responsibilities to the future children.

We will hold the “Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants” Rally as follows. Please participate with your family and friends.

10 Million Signature Campaign to say Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants

Petition for the Realization of Denuclearization and a Society Focused on Natural Energy

Purpose

Affected by the repeated explosions and the meltdown at Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the sea, the air and the ground have suffered severe contamination and it is anticipated that countless numbers of people will be exposed to radiation in the future.
With the issues faced by the survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki still unresolved, now we have also become victims of nuclear energy. At the same time, we have become perpetrators of damage.
Furthermore, we fear that the current situation may result in immeasurable harm to children, including those who are not yet born. Human beings cannot coexist with nuclear.
Fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters are all at a loss what to feed their young children and where to find refuge. No answer is provided. For the sake of future generations, we desperately aspire for a “sustainable and peaceful society”, one in which we reconsider our current lifestyles, which are damaging nature and exploiting and wasting energy, and find a way to coexist with all living things on Earth.
As a first step, we strongly demand political leadership to bring about a dynamic shift in nuclear energy policy towards the elimination of nuclear energy. To this end we make the following demands.

Demands

  1. We demand the cancellation of construction plans for new nuclear power plants and the planned termination of existing nuclear power plants, including the Hamaoka power plant.
  2. We demand that the fast-breeder reactor “Monju” and the nuclear reprocessing plants, which use the most dangerous material on earth, plutonium, not be operated and that they be shut down permanently.
  3. We demand an immediate shift in energy policy towards energy conservation and placing natural energy in the center.
