TEPCO’s assessment of the planned radioactive contaminated water release into the Pacific Ocean

Presentation by Shaun Burnie, Senior Nuclear Specialist, Greenpeace East Asia

On 18 November 2021, TEPCO published its draft assessment on the radiological impact of their planned discharges of radioactive waste water presently stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the Pacific Ocean. On December 9, as part of CNIC’s webinar series, Shaun Burnie, Senior Nuclear Specialist at Greenpeace East Asia gave a presentation on the serious problems with TEPCO’s assessment, including the fact that basic principles of radiation protection have been ignored and that this release will be illegal under international treaties. Public comment on this assessment is open until 18 December 2021.
